I just spoke with a mother with a baby that has been hospitalized for most
of her 4 months of life. Mom feels she gets better results from using her
PNS. She has been using it since baby was born, the hospital didn't offer a
hospital grade pump, just got the paperwork through for her to get one
through Medical Assistance.

When baby was rehospitalized with RSV (& more) after a week or so being
home, mom started using the hospital pump. She was, of course, very stressed
and had trouble getting herself to pump. Her supply was dropping. She
started doing skin to skin regularly and started using her own pump which
she found made a big difference.

Yes, the hospital grade is better, but sometimes moms like having their own
pump and the flexibility of pumping where you want to and not at a pumping
station can be huge. Having cheerleaders giving her positive feedback is
invaluable, too.
