Dear Lactnet Friends:
What bothers me about this is that everything about women can be replaced,
except (so far) the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. Conception can occur
outside the womb. Zygotes can be kept frozen, as can eggs and sperm.
Bottles of formula substitute for a breast. And now, an avatar can
substitute for breastfeeding helpers...and may be even better because an
avatar is available at 4 am, and doesn't mind repeating itself.
Avatars are still experimental. The trend is very disturbing. It reminds me
of scenes out of Brave New World, another book that probably isn't read any
more in high school.
