Actually, breast shells were associated with lower breastfeeding rates
in women who used them prenatally in the MAIN Collaborative group
multicenter trial. The Nipplette has been found to help evert nipples if
used between pregnancies in tests done by the devices' inventor, and
supple cups have been helpful for women with flat or inverted nipples in
my own practice when used from 37 weeks on, or postpartum before
nursing. Julie Bouchet Horwitz (FNP, IBCLC) is working on a case series
using the supple cups, but nothing is published yet, that I know of,
other than the information in my book which it is against the Lactnet
rules to mention.
