Leilani writes, for a mom:
:"He's gaining weight just fine, but I'd really like to move him on to
real food. We see the cleft palate team at Rady's Childrens Hospital on May
2."
It's highly likely that he is gaining fine because he is not having to work
with and survive on "real food." ( I would submit that mother's milk is
real food, just not real solids...)I have worked with a few babies who did
well until their parents were told to cut down on breastfeeding and push more
solids. They couldn't handle it, and their weights were affected. Just
something to think about; really keeping in mind this baby's capabilities,
with an eye towards change when it seems doable. High palates, with or without
submuscosal clefts are certainly more challenging for these babies and
their families.
