I agree with Susan -- Love at Goon Park is a great book about the origins of the research that informs a lot of our understanding today. As a primatology PhD student I was fortunate to be supervised by Melinda Novak, one of Harlow's graduate students, who is mentioned in the 2nd half of the book. Anyone who is interested in the history of research into the importance of mother-infant relationships would find it a fascinating read.
