I hear this a lot, too.  Because I do home visits, I find this concern easy
to handle.  I simply say something like:  "Well, let me show you how it
works and then you can decide if you like it or not."  Then I bring them to
their bed and get mother and baby comfortable and latched on.  95% it goes
off without a hitch.  While mom is nursing baby, I will tell her about safe
co-bedding and what criteria actually makes it dangerous.  By this time,
she's been happily nursing lying down for a few minutes and is very
comfortable, and is no longer fearful.
