This is my first time posting, though I am a frequent lurker.
I am an IBCLC working in private practice since 2008 and a La Leche League
Leader since 2000. I currently work as an aide to midwives in a community
birthing centre. Not long ago a midwife told me that she advises her tandem
nursing clients to make sure that if the older baby/toddler gets ill, that the
babies not nurse from the same breast. This seems counterintuitive to me. I
couldn't find anything in the archives about how viruses can or can not be
transmitted during tandem nursing. This midwife insists that the saliva from the
toddler caused one of her client's newborn babies to fall ill and require
hospitalization. Could any of you point me in the direction of some information
that would either confirm that it is good practice to make the children each
have their own breast.

Thank you!
