Subject: RN IBCLC's
"In the future, there will be no IBCLC's who are familiar with breastfeeding older babies."
I am an RN IBCLC. I believe that everyone who helps moms and babies can contribute to the profession. I work in a hospital and while the majority of my official hands on consults are with newborns, I see older babies every week at our breastfeeding support group and take calls daily from mom's of older babies. Being a hospital based RB IBCLC does not prevent me from having experience with older babies.
The tone of this topic is taking on an "us" vs "them" sound. I for one take exception every time I read something negative about RN or hospital based IBCLC's. In fighting is always the thing that will do in a profession or a movement. We need to support each other more and talk about our strengths and not about our perceived competition's weaknesses, especially when they are gross generalizations.
