Mom and baby have been doing wonderfully exclusively breastfeeding. At
approx 5 weeks of age, baby was vomiting blood. Spent 5 days in the
hospital with many tests and no conclusive results. No blood in stool.
Stools were still yellow and seedy until formula started. Blood in lungs and
eyes. Awaiting results of allergy test - expected in 2 weeks. Dr. told
mother it was possibly an allergy to dairy and to go onto Nutramigen for 2
weeks until results are back. If results are negative, will be considered
idiopathic and possibly treated with steroids.

Mother instructed to pump and store milk for the next 2 weeks. Mother not
willing to give up dairy from her diet. Dr. warned her that people that give
up all dairy tend to lose a lot of weight and mother concerned about that.
Also, due to finances, mother is dependent on family for food and she
believes it would be difficult to eliminate dairy in those circumstances.
Mother plans to resume directly bf if it is determined there is not an
allergy.

Can anyone offer any insight? Mother has declined me speaking to the MD, she
is tired of all of their opinions. I believe mother would continue
breastfeeding if I encouraged her to do so which I will not do at this
point.

Thank you!
