The other treatment not yet mentioned would be to remove baby from the
breast after a few gulps or when she feels the "let down" so that he isn't
having to gulp down that surge of milk - which makes him take in more air,
which in turn gives him the gas pains and fussiness. When she removes the
baby from the breast, she should manually compress the breast and allow the
streams of milk to go into a burp cloth. I usually recommend that moms
continue the compressions until the number of streams have decreased or the
color and consistency have changed to the thicker white. (versus the
blue-ish tint foremilk color) This could take a full minute or even more
and should be repeated for each let down she has within a feeding. (the
first let down is usually the longest)
