If this baby follows a similar track to the baby I saw who was 20% below
BW at 3 weeks of age, the baby will get enough energy and food and
practice feeding better to work into taking normal amounts, and understanding
his own hunger and satiation, weight gain trajectory will get
better.

~~~  I forgot to say that this baby was supplemented appropriately by  the
mom from the moment I walked in - she was open to doing that and understood
why, though it was devastating to her emotionally. The point I was trying
to  make was that some babies who have been underfed for this long don't have
the  stomach capacity to take in "normal" sized feeds for the first 12-24
hours or so  of  being willing to and beginning on the mom's part, the
appropriate  supplementing,  but often yes babies can "leap frog". I use this to
mean  that baby really gains and goes into catch-up mode when given a little
time to  get used to eating normal amounts of food. Sorry if I made it sound
like  appropriate supplementation was not a critical part of recovery.
