Julie,
I would urge mother to use any positions, slings, whatever to comfort
this baby in the short term. I think you said sort of kangaroo care
skin to skin holding was working best. Continue that. Then I would
urge mother to keep on searching for a healthcare provider that will
properly and thoroughly evaluate this child. It is quite apparent to
me that this child is ill. If it was something simple, it would have
been fixed by now, I think. There are quite a few parents who have had
to advocate and insist on care for their child, when they knew
something was wrong. This is one of those cases. Since baby is growing
well, it does not seem to be a metabolic type problem, so I keep
thinking it is something anatomical or structural.
