Dear all:
I and many other private practice IBCLCs in the New York City have used laid back nursing. I started using what is called laid back nursing well before Suzanne Colson did her research. It is one of many excellent ways to assist mothers to relax while nursing. To me her research is a validation of NOT using a one size fits all solution when mothers tell us they are in pain while nursing. Please keep in mind that her sample size is small. I find many variations off of the main positions that the women she studied felt comfortable, including a new one discovered by a mother with a painful coccyx of using her knees curled to one side as a bolster. It worked well for her.
Best regards, Susan Burger
