We aim for 20-30 gm/ day once fully-fortified feeds are achieved. Fenton
growth chart is now most widely used and is based on both breastfed and
formula-fed premies.
~~~ Thanks to Dr. Wight for the neonatologist reply. I must be losing my
mind because 20/30g/day sounds like "normal" weight gain expected for a
newborn. If this is the case, then these sets of parents ( several now) have
been scared unnecessarily when their babies were gaining this way. These
babies are home, breastfeeding or getting mother's milk, plus any vitamins and
Fe they need. Is this "fully fortified" for a baby at home, or is this
reference to adding fortifier when much smaller/younger'/hospitalized?
Aside of interest? I googled "Fenton Growth Chart" and the first two sites
were both Abbot Nutrition - it's great that a concerned mom's first stop
online shows her how she can trust artificial feeding to grow her baby
well...
Thanks,
Peace,
Judy
