Has she had an exam with a slit lamp?  I would see a retinal specialist.  This could be uveitis and is treatable or cystic macular edema - unrelated to pregnancy or lactation.  We know that hormones of pregnancy can change the cornea, sometimes permanently with improved vision.  And contact prescriptions may have to change.  But any macular or retinal changes should be looked at by a specialist, possibly a retinal scan done.  Dismissing things because of pregnancy or lactation is unwarranted and unfair if not dangerous.

(Permission to post)...I have a question about lactation and visual disturbance.  I am counseling a mother of a 4 week old infant who is experiencing intense sensitivity to light and some floaters and blurred vision.  Her eye doctor is chalking it up to hormones, which is a natural assumption but this lady has been either pregnant or breastfeeding (and at times both) for all but a few weeks of the last 5 years and this symptom is very new.  Is it likely that she would develop that symptom late?  She doesn't want to ignore something more pressing.  Any thoughts?
