I think TT is one more "canary in the mine" that we had better pay attention
to. We have done so much damage to the external terrain (our environment )
and internal terrain (maternal gut) that we are seeing the epigenetic
outcome right before our eyes.

Thank you Jennifer for saying this.  I am seeing more and more tongue ties
these past couple years - and by more I mean a staggering number of more!
In fact, one of my local colleagues asked me just this past week if she was
imagining things as she is also seeing a staggering increase in tongue ties
- and honestly, I don't think it is just that we are better at finding them.

As well as seeing more tongue ties, I am also seeing much more complicated
tongue ties.  I will be trying to write this case up (not sure how to do
that but will ask a couple friends) but recently I have been working with a
dyad where baby was not only tongue tied, but also had severely tight
muscles.  

The hyoglossal muscle under the tongue (among others) was very tight.  Baby
was clipped in the hosp (poorly done).  I saw her at 4 days and recommended
another clipping by a Doc who does a fabulous job as well as referred her to
my Pediatric Bowen Therapist (Judy) who kicks butt over any other
practitioner I have been able to find in my area.  By 9 wks baby had needed
to be re-clipped 2 more times (by my evaluations which included suck
assessments as well as sweeping under the tongue) which bothered me
tremendously as the Doc is exceptionally good at frenotomies.  It seemed
that each time baby went to the Ped. Bowen Therapist and had those muscles
released more frenulum showed itself.  She was finally able to get a bit of
a milk transfer...but not much.  

When I saw them at 10 wks, I mused to the mom, "I wonder if we can get Judy
and the Doc together and tag team the baby - Judy releases the muscles and
Doc reclips that frenulum that seems to be never-ending?"  Well, mom
suggested it to Judy (who was doubtful) but Judy set it up with the Doc.  It
was a miserable situation for all - BUT - the frenulum was finally clipped
all the way and at 11 wks now, baby is fully capable of getting full
feedings at breast and does so very happily!  And as luck would have it, I
have another baby who just came to me who looks to be in the same
situation...sigh.  But at least we now have an idea as to how to potentially
proceed...

The complexity of some of these cases is astounding.   Judy says she will
never doubt me again...  :)
