Just listened to Diane Spatz, IBCLC, DSN at a ILCA Chaper meeting last pm.
She runs breastfeeding at CHOP in Philadelphia PA. What she has done in the
past 5-6 years is amazing. The interesting things she was saying last pm
was about early pumping for NICU babies(within 2-4 hrs depending on method
of delivery) and how what is done in the first few days and monitoring mom's
volume output impacts how much milk mom will make. They expect ALL of
their moms of special care babies to pump or breastfeed. Do lots of sts if
baby not ready to have oral feeding.
Read anything you can get your hands on by her! Ask her to speak at your
group meetings for IBCLCs. Pat in SNJ
