In MY experience, any over the counter pump that is designed to remove 70% of the available milk is not going to equal an efficient breastfeeding baby. Period.  Moms who have plugged ducts or other issues should experiment with phased hospital-grade pumps and hand-expression, stripping the ducts after pumping as has been discussed previously. It's like anything else, nothing artificial is truly as good as the real thing - unless the real thing doesn't work at all!

I am wondering if, by wearable pumps, you mean just the one that the entire unit fits into a bra, or if it also includes those which use a bra or bustier to hold the horns onto the breasts, with a small, separate, motor unit that can be worn in a pocket or something.  I have been talking to a mother who is inducing for an adopted baby, who has three other little ones.  Since it is difficult for her to spend a lot of time sitting, I have suggested that she consider one of the kinds of pumps that fit the latter description.  If those also tend to cause plugged ducts, I at least need to caution moms not to use the hands-free features a lot and to watch for plugged ducts.
