Referring to a pediatric gastroenterologist sounds like going sparrow
hunting with cannons but there is the chance that this doc will have the
sense
to look for the source of the problem rather than treating it as
constipation.

~~~ This has sadly  become the norm in some practices, because docs in
those
practices simply do  not understand normal. What they accept as "healthy"
or  "normal"  weight loss, or lack of weight gain, can be mind-boggling.
What
they   accept as "normal" behavior, or tell moms "not to allow" because
it's
not  normal  or healthy ( like feeding a baby for more than 15 minutes
despite baby crying  after being taken off breast at the 15 minute  mark,
which
just came up this  week, like feeding more than 8 times in  24 hours, or
feeding
more than 6  times a day after 2 months of age, or  telling moms that
crying
babies are  just crying for no reason so it's  actually bad for them if we
don't ignore  them...) puts them in the  position of ignoring things we
would
consider at least  yellow flags  bearing watching, then they overreact so
they don't get accused of   being negligent.
Perhaps this is a US thing, since we seem to be the  most litigious society
on Earth?
Peace,
