I worked with a Mom who had a badly broken shoulder and resulting surgery. She could not use either arm. She was reluctantly ready to wean until we had her nurse the baby on a table. She adjusted an office chair so her breasts were at the right height relative to the table, had baby lay on a towel on the table and nursed that way. He was probably about 6 months at the time and quite a big boy. She was able to nurse all through her recovery and then for a long time beyond. Of course she still needed help getting the baby into position and somebody nearby to ensure that he did not roll off the table.
I got the idea from the Breastfeeding Atlas where there is a picture of a Mom (possibly Kay? I don't have it nearby) nursing with the baby on an ironing board.
