has the baby been evaluated for EE? American Partnership For
Eosinophilic Disorders | Official Website of the American Partnership
For Esoniphilic Disorders
many of the symptoms the mother describes sound classic for the
disorder. however, when she says she went on the elimination diet "for
a whole week", it makes it sound as though she thinks that should be
more than long enough for any signs of allergic response/damage to
have dissipated. that is not nearly long enough for truly ruling out
gluten - or dairy. multiple food allergies almost always go hand-in-
hand with EE, so i'd want to advise mom on how long she should
actually try eliminating the major allergens and offer her support in
how to feed herself and baby while she does, while encouraging her to
ask the GI specialists about EE. if this baby has EE, breastmilk is
going to be vital for him.
i know these issues can feel like they've been going on for an
eternity to a tired and worried mother, but i agree with rachel - the
timeline and interventions/remedies the mother describes are not quite
adding up. the baby seems too young for mother to have truly ruled out
all of the possible issues here. as for aspirating thin liquids, i'd
really want to explore if never lying the baby flat, but always
reclined, could eliminate that issue before altering or discontinuing
breastmilk. i was told the same thing with my own first son (who had
horrible "reflux") and as soon as i stopped ever lying him flat, the
problem vanished. has the mother and/or dr. already determined that
this simple preventive action won't suffice?
