I don't think the lapband surgery has any direct effect on lactation hormones, namely oxytocin and prolactin.
However, obesity, diabetes or insulin resistance, PCOS, all or some of which may be a factor in this mother's case. And
these endocrine (hormonal) issues can affect lactation in probably complicated and sometimes poorly understood
ways.
My understanding is that lapband is not as nutritionally risky as gastric bypass surgery. Still good nutrition
aids good lactation.
Of course, I would present this in the most positive light and encourage mom to breastfeed with followup.
