The clinician talking about ecbolic drugs as impacting Bf was probably
referring to ergot drugs. Ergonovine is used to treat postpartum uterine
bleeding/hemorrhaging. There are some studies that show ergonovine reduces
postpartum prolactin levels, but then again postpartum hemorrhage could also
severely mess up the milk supply, right? Methylergonovine is also used to
reduce postpartum bleeding and some studies show it may alter the prolactin
levels less drastically than the ergonovine, so perhaps it is a safer
choice. Hopefully someone with more info can chime in as well.
