this reminds me of the first person that I remember hearing say this was
JoAnne Scott when she taught prenatal breastfeeding classes at the hospital
where I worked on MCH nursing units, so that was some 20?years ago, around
the time the IBLCE was getting underway, here in America. The hospital was
the first in our area, that I know of, to be very encouraging of having an
experienced LLLL teaching prenatal breastfeeding classes, even tho JoAnne
was not employed by the hospital, ...providing space and support at no cost.
Maybe that could be considered at least one example of non-hostile support
of breastfeeding in America.
I sat my spongy self in on all of JoAnne's prenatal classes to soak up
every teaching strategy, every method, and every word. She was a wealth of
knowledge and experience to say the least. She was a mentor to many *way*
before she realized it. I know because I brought it to her attention. During
one class she had a friend with her from overseas, Australia I think, JoAnne
seemed thrilled to have this friend visiting, and she eager to introduce me
to her, but alas I cannot remember who it was. Probably someone famous,
then and now.
