~~~ Can't say I'm surprised but glad they are getting the message out about
the importance of baby breastfeeding and CoSleeping nearby. They seem to
think it's just too risky to actually give families information about safe
sleep with baby, and trust they will follow through. In fact, for all we
know the dogged instistence, even shame-focused ads that baby not be in bed
could be directly related to increasing rates of sudden death in infants, as
moms drag themselves out of bed and go to the couch ( away from that
dangerous bed!) to try to meet their baby's nighttime needs.
I remain confused about terminology though. If a baby has a drugged
mom who rolls over and smothers baby, or a smoking dad whose fumes mess with
baby's breathing and it shuts down for too long, or baby somehow gets his
ribs trapped between the bed and a wall in an unsafe situation, and that
baby dies, how is that "unexplained"? I guess my brain is just too overloaded
to grasp this?
Peace,
Judy
