I've used Skyping with webcam a couple of times. It is better than just the phone, but still, it is second hand observing, never being able to get into the right corner to see wha tbaby is doing exactly. For cases where primairily counseling is the care-tool, I find it a great way for communicating long-distance clients. Still, if any potential client contacts me and I do feel that in person contact with a skilled LC is needed, I do try and convince her to look for a collegue she can visit or who can visit her. But then again, some mothers are so convinced that I´m the only one able to help them, they still want to do it the hard way.
I do have a lot of experience of not-in-person counseling and I did fine-tune my listening and talking skills, but It still does miss te personal touch (sometimes literally touch).
Warmly,
Gonneke

I would be very interested to hear from any IBCLCs who have used Skype for
long distance consultations. What do you see as the benefits and what
challenges have you encountered?
TIA,
