Winnie mentioned that a breastfeeding bill has passed through the
Wisconsin State Legislature and now awaits the governor's signature.
This represents years of work by many people. The reason I didn't
post about it right away (it was voted on Tuesday, February 16, 2010)
is that I won't believe it until it is actually signed into law. So
many things can derail it at every step. So right now we are in the
process of writing to the governor to urge him to sign this bill into
law. If it passes, Wisconsin would join 43 other U.S. states and the
District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands in having a law to
protect breastfeeding in public or private spaces where the mother
and child are otherwise authorized to be.
