Wow... we're getting some great feedback for our Bucket List!
I would ask those on this list who are also health care professionals in
another capacity (nurses, doctors, midwives, etc.) to add to the list as
well... not with things you feel you need to know, but rather with things
that you use in your work with breastfeeding moms, that you would not be
able to do if you were NOT also a nurse, doctor, midwife, etc.
Remember, its a Bucket List... we are allowed to be a bit unrealistic! ;~>
This is what we have so far... please continue to add to it, one entry at a
time.
IBCLC Bucket List:
*Basic CST for infants
*Pediatric Bowen for Infants
*Specific training in infant swallowing anatomy and physiology
*Education on structural issues in infants and how to recognize them
*Oral anomalies in infant (palate, frenum,suck). How to assess,treat,and who
to refer to.
*Ability to perform minor procedures, such piercing a nipple bleb or
clipping an obvious tongue tie
*Herbal education, including drug interactions and contraindications
*Maternal nutrition and the role it plays on milk production
*Understanding third party/government health plan billing and procedures
*Wound knowledge and care
