Jessica, if this baby is allergic to cow's milk protein, chances are he/she is also allergic to soy. She would be better off getting something like Nutramigen or Alimentum.

Subject: highly allergic baby

I am forwarding to the list a few questions from the mother of the highly
allergic baby that I posted about previously. Yes she has tried to get her
own supply up using all the techniques we all know, and no she has had no
success. She has gotten formula from a company Nature's One-It's called
'Baby's Only' Organic Soy formula but it says it is not appropriate as a
nutrition source for babies under a year. This baby is 4 ½ months old.

She has worked on increasing the donor base, and has even worked out donor
milk for when she will be in America, but I think she is nervous not to have
anything to fall back on in an emergency. (for example she was in a crisis
the other day when I called because her freezer was malfunctioning, and she
had to immediately transfer all the milk)

The formula has 80 cal per 120 prepared, whereas the infant formula can of
regular formula has 69 per 100 ml. She says nutritional value on the can is
similar. Could she do one feed a day with this? I advised her that I
thought if she was collecting the mother's milk she should really just stick
with it, but I think this is psychological for her to have something that
she is obtaining herself, rather than relying on other people's good will to
sustain her baby, even though she hopes to only use the donor milk.

In addition, does anyone have experience with allergy testing for a baby
under one year?

Please email privately as well as to the list.

Thank You,

Jessica Billowitz, IBCLC
