Our hospital focus group is conducting a literature search to explore the
benefits of frequent skin-to-skin contact throughout the postpartum stay.
There are many articles that relate to Kangaroo Care in the NICU setting and
others that encourage very early skin-to-skin contact (first hour of life),
but I have not had success finding research specifically supporting
continued skin-to-skin contact past the first couple of postpartum hours, or
what its direct benefits may be. I would greatly appreciate any reference to
this type of research that you may know of. Thank you!
