In my opinion it boils down to the litigious US Society and poor
screening.
If agencies were able to screen appropriately, and did not have fears
of
pedophiles or child abusers getting through the screening process, they
would not have to cover their assess with ridiculous rules, and could
actually allow good parents to provide good parenting to at risk infants
and children...
Maeve and Laura,
Thank you for your illuminating, and sad, posts about the US foster care
system's rules. I only know from watching my friend lovingly parent the 5
year old daughter of a mom who was incapable of caring for her ( never
resolved drug dependency), how much she loved this girl and how amazing
it was the
day she announced that this little girl, then already 9, was fully,
legally hers. Her face, and the face of her now legal daughter, was the
definition of the word "joy." Wow, we obviously have a LONG way to go
when moms as
loving as I trust you both are, are bound by such rules.
Peace,
Judy
