I have permission from my pt to post--
Baby is 6 wks old, irritable, colicky, with visible blood in stools. Mom reports that infant stools 8 or more times per day and that it is runnier than normal breastmilk stools (this is baby #3, having nursed her other 2 as well). Baby is on Zantac for reflux. Mom eliminated dairy from her diet 1 week ago & reports mild improvement of symptoms. (I told her that it takes a few wks for the allergen to be totally eliminated from the system and that symptoms can worsen before getting better).
Mom is now following Dr. Sears elimination diet. She spoke with another LC who gave her information about Pancrease MT-4 which she mentioned to her OB and her pedi; neither are familiar with the medication and don't feel comfortable prescribing it. Mom is requesting more information -- I have no experience with this enzyme at all so don't feel qualified to give advice regarding it's use. She was excited for me to post here and see if anyone can offer her some opinions about it's use.
