It isn't necessary to wean before a mammo, though women frequently are told  
to do so. I was told I would have to wait for my next mammo, but I am not  
going to wait 2, 3, 4, or however many years till my second little one is  
done! Of course I was also told to pump and dump if I needed pain meds for  
my kidney stone and for 24 hours after the lithotripsy operation. I didn't  
listen then, either. Anyhow, I think nursing and or pumping right before the  
mammo is advisable so that her breast isn't overly full and thus more prone  
to discomfort from the procedure.

The radiologist may say they can't do a mammo on a lactating breast, but my  
understanding is that the tissue is more dense and thus more difficult to  
read, but certainly not impossible. Thank you, by the way, for reminding me  
to schedule mine. It's been two years since my last (lactating) mammo. I was  
pregnant when I was scheduled to go back!
