I had some mixed success with this physical exercise.
We set up a maze with tape on the floor.
We blindfolded one participant (the mother).
We assigned "roles" to several other participants (breastfeeding helper,  
doctor, nurse, friend, mother, baby daddy, etc.)
Then I had the "breastfeeding helper" attempt to guide the "mother"  
through the early-days maze while all the other "helpers" shouted conflicting  
information and doubt-creating statements.
I used this to help the teens understand the importance of whom they choose 
 to help them, and to describe why it important to select with as much care 
as  possible those helpers over which you have some choice.
The teens with whom I was working did not have any choice of doctor or  
hospital, but they could choose whether to have a breastfeeding helper (from  
WIC), and if their mother or the baby daddy would be supportive.
We also discussed tips for overcoming objections from all those people who  
think they are helping...
It led to some very good discussion,

Subject: Breastfeeding class for teens

I  would love any tips!

I taught my first class to a group of very young  expectant mothers at
a high school for pregnant and parenting teens last  week.  The nurse
thought it went great...I think I can do better!   I started by having
the students tell me what the know/what they have heard  about
breastfeeding and I made a list for all of us to see so I would  know
what to address.  I also brought props to illustrate some of  the
"benefits" of breastfeeding (still working on  normalizing
language...bear with me...), focusing on some of the  short-term
differences between ff and bf.  Some of the young women were  very
engaged, others not so much.  I definitely need more  visuals/humor
(didn't know I'd have access to an overhead) for next  time.  It's a
one-shot deal class that runs 30-45 minutes.  My  dream is to get a
peer-support group going!
