Hello,
I've got permission to post. I'm a little stumped unless this mother is not
telling me something, but I can't figure out what it could be. 3 month old
baby a little over a week ago started refusing the breast (s). Refused for
a day or so, then went back for a few feedings---then refused breast AND
pumped milk. Mom has tried frozen, refrigerated, freshly pumped and all is
refused. She says that it smells and tastes fine---not sour, but sweet and
not salty. Baby does take ABM, and a gradual mixture of ABM and breast
milk, UNTIL the ratio gets to be about 50% and then the baby refuses again.
Baby has been to the doctor and there is no sign of illness. Mom has no
signs of mastitis. I need to ask whether she has changed her diet in any
way, but she's very educated and I know that she's thought of her diet. Not
pregnant per pregnancy test. I told her to try scalding her pumped milk
right away to see if it makes a difference. Has anyone seen this, or seen
lipase problems without any obvious changes in the smell/taste? Mom has
breast fed 4 other children with no problems. I've heard of babies refusing
a breast when the mother has mastitis or cancer, but two breasts AND the
milk? What else can I ask her?
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom,
