I also think that babies nurse differently in first few days as opposed to
how they cue at one week etc. We freak out moms by saying 10-12 times on
day one, when in reality that isn't what happens. I'll always remember my
first 2 grandchildren, one sort of nursed off and mostly on for the first 24
hours and the 2nd nursed 3 times in 24 hours! Guess which one was
jaundiced? Wrong! the continual nurser was - LOL. Both deliveries were
unmedicated, but the 3 times in 24 hours baby had a rough delivery and poor
apgars. I think she was recovering. Both went on to nurse well past 2 and
grew up to be very nice adults. I agree with Jan, "rules" shouldn't
replace cues. Pat in SNJ
