Pam, I don't have an idea where you read that info, but I can back it up by some
personal experience with silicone and yeast in another situation. I am using a
silicone menstrual cup and boiling it certainly doesn't get rid of the yeast and
leads to reinfection every time. Searching for info on how to get rid of the
yeast without buying a new one I got the same info - that boiling doesn't kill
yeast spores and the potential for reinfection exists further. The solution for
me was using a simple and weak hydrogen peroxid solution (1 tbsp of normal
hydrogen peroxide 2% solution in 1 cup water) to soak without boiling. That
helped immediately. The rationale for using peroxide was that vaginal
lactobacilli release the same substance to kill off pathogenic bacteria and
fungi too.
So I wonder if that would help with bottle teats and dummies too?

Somewhere in my reading I came across info that thrush items (nipples, shields
etc) should not be boiled as that encapsulates the fungus and lets it come out
