So, home birth, 21 days, still one pound below bw, only two bm's -- one on
day 1 and one on day 15.
Thanks for everyone's input. I really appreciate it!
~~~ The fact that this baby was home born, in my opinion, may be a huge
part of the picture, in terms of the baby being pronounced healthy and looking
well to the MD who evaluated. This baby has moved into "slow gaining"
territory out of FTT. If this baby follows a similar track to the baby I saw
who was 20% below BW at 3 weeks of age, the baby will get enough energy and
food and practice feeding better to work into taking normal amounts, and
understanding his own hunger and satiation, weight gain trajectory will get
better. Of course it bears watching. When I walked in and first saw the
baby I could not believe how well he looked despite being skinny and very
underweight. He was awake, alert, attentive, interested and calm. I was
stunned. I believe it was the lack of drugs during birth that might impair what
efforts he was making, and the mom literally keeping this baby on her body
at all times, that kept this baby's energy level and overall wellness where
it was despite a severe lack of intake (diagnosed PCOS but no monitoring to
see if it would have an impact on milk production, with minimal milk
production no matter what was done, very sad situation.) Just something I think
about sometimes...
Peace,
