Yes indeed.
I think weighing is important as *part* of the whole picture.
In a culture where birth interventions, separation of mother and
baby, lack of HCP and maternal awareness of what effective
breastfeeding even looks like, expectations in both HCPs and mothers
that a well-fed baby sleeps a lot and 'settles' readily, then
weighing can be an important safety-net , but it is only an element.
In any case, it is the weight trend that's important - a baby can
show signs he has lost a lot of weight, but be healthy, feeding well
and be ready to start gaining any moment now :) But you only know
this by looking at the baby and talking to the mother about what's
going on.
