Any wisdom on this mom would be appreciated:
A crack or indentation appears around the base of the nipple at the
nipple/areolar junction bilaterally. As another LC charted, "both nipples
have a thin circular indentation in the center of the shaft of the nipple
that completely wraps around the nipple (like a piece of hair is wrapped
around the shaft). Mom is not sure if they were like that prior to
breastfeeding, but has been there since the baby was born. No sign of
infection present. L nipple appears to leak a scant amount of milk from this
line."
Mother experiencing significant pain in this area, especially in first 30
seconds of latch. No widening of this possible fissure after
breastfeeding. Latch appears good & nipple is not misshapen after bf. No
blanching.
What's your thoughts or experiences on those circumferential nipple
base fissures in general?
Thanks,
Susan Lawrence, RN, LLLL, IBCLC
