A friend of mine has shingles. Because she is in precarious neurological
state her GP decided that he wants to treat it aggressively. So he has
prescribed Valtrex 1gr 3 times a day. She is now in the third day of taking
it. She is supposed to take it for seven days. Her baby is almost 3 months
old. The doctor advised against her contact with the baby because for fear
of getting sick. She is also currently pumping and dumping, because he told
her that the medication is not compatible with breastfeeding.
She has now run out of EBM and is frantic.
Can someone tell me how necessary these precautions are?
The baby is healthy and not underweight. This GP is know to me as
breast-feeding neutral - he can take it or he ca leave it.
Thank you.
