In my experience, no excuse is *ever* needed to give a whole ton of
bad press for breastfeeding.
I think it's probably a happy co-incidence for certain people and
certain interests that other stuff is happening around public health
at the same time in some countries.
The media love to challenge what they see as 'orthodoxy' which is why
these researchers' institution (University College, London)'s press
office went BIG on it, and why in turn Reuters, Press Association and
the world's TV, radio and newspapers have gone absolutely overboard
on it.
Check Google news. This story is big everywhere - we had headlines in
the UK press saying 'Breast is Not Best' with the word 'Not' in big
red letters. We had a quality newspaper headlining it as 'Too much
breastfeeding may put babies off their greens' and a whole queue of
'experts' pontificating on the 'risks' of breastfeeding to six months
.
