Absolutely - and this is, as we know, so common. Women end up
exhausted, often feeling powerless and with memories of pain and
trauma. They protect themselves by 'switching off' - whereas
breastfeeding works best if you 'switch on' to it.
Breastfeeding could be so *healing* in these circumstances with the
right sort of sensitive approach.
Sadly, breastfeeding can become an extension of the pain and trauma
and powerlessness....'cos the sensitive approach just isn't there.
Women apportion blame in two directions for it i) at themselves for
being 'terrible mothers and ii) at the 'breastfeeding lobby' for
'making me feel like a terrible mother'
