Lots of information on the La Leche League International website about legal
issues, I believe, although I'm not sure if it is password protected. Let
me know if you can't get in and I'll see if I can find it for you.
The gist is - don't make it about breastfeeding, rather focus on the child's
need for her mother and appropriate, age-based visits. Clearly this baby is
not doing well away from her mom, poor thing.

Subject: shared custody of nursing toddler
If any of you has experience in writing a successful letter in support of a
mother keeping overnight custody of her nursing toddler (18 months in this
case), please let me know. I have a mother in my practice who's recent
divorce means that the father gets the baby three days/nights in a row
before mom gets her back. This poor duo is emotionally exhausted, and the
toddler is clinging and nursing non-stop on the day mom gets her back for
security.
Thank you,
Tara Guy, PA-C, IBCLC
