Let's start at the begining. You're doing a good job.
What gestation is this baby? Was she induced? C-section?
Is this your first baby? How long does it take her to feed? Do you hear
sucking? Does she fall asleep - after how long?
Is the baby tongue tied? You had mentioned nipple pain, but it has
resolved..
Are you using a pacifier?
You say 3-4 poops - are they credit card size? or just smears?
Do you have to wake her to feed? Does she cry before she gets fed?
Are you/were you engorged?
Have you started any type of birth control with hormones?
Have you taken any cold medication?
From what you've told us so far it sounds like the baby may have been a bit
early [falls asleep at the breast]
your milk has "come in" [baby went from 7-8 to 7-10]
You may have had problems with engorgement [latch problems]
Your baby is eating only 2-3 hours during the day, with free access at
night.
I'd like the other info but with what we have, it sounds like a "milk
transfer opportunity problem."
Try to feed baby q 1.5 to 2.5 hours during the day, use Jack Newman's breast
compression, and lots of skin to skin.
I don't think herbs are the answer[at this point] or pumping[at this point]
because it will just take time away from feeding.
You're looking to feed 10-12 times in 24 hours.
And you're only allowed to be on the computer if she's latched on : ).

Subject: New mom worries
Although I am a lactation counselor, I am also a new mom of a 2 week old so
my CLC knowledge has kinda gone out the window. Baby girl born Nov 16
weighed 7lb 14oz, at discharge she was 7-8. At her 4 day visit she weighed
7-10. Went to 2 week visit and she still is 7-10. She sleeps with me and
nurses about every 3 hrs at night and 2-3 during the day. She appears
satisfied between feeds (except now I am trying to put her in her bassinet
and she does not like that). Her output is good 3-4 dirty diapers and 6-8
very wet diapers. At the check up her head circumference had increased and
her length increased by an inch. But she was not at birth weight as she
should have been. Her Pedi stated she was not very concerned about her
because she appears healthy and strong, but has given me a week to increase
her weight to birth weight. I need advice on where to start. I bought
Fenugreek and started it yesterday I also have a double electric Medela pump
that I started using between feeds but I don't want to lessen the volume
that is available to her. We struggled at first with getting the latch right
but have since improved it and no longer have pain. She does appear to get
very sleepy at the breast even with undressing. Is there something that can
be done about that. Thank you all so much for your words of wisdom.
