Good afternoon, Lactnetters,
It is always good to share a positive report. At lunch time on today's ABC
(Australia) radio Science Show, Dia Michels was interviewed on bed sharing.
She deplored the current US directions never, ever to sleep with a baby, for
fear of SIDS, and she was critical of current directions to keep the baby
awake while breastfeeding and then to place her/him in a crib. She
described breastfeeding as protective and described the normal soporific
(sleep-inducing) effects of breastfeeding, for instance, vs keeping the baby
awake (unphysiological). I wish I had made a note of some of her nicely
worded comments.
The program can be accessed online. I don't have the URL, but it can be
found at ABC Radio National, and the program is the Science Show with Robin
Williams. Date, Saturday, 5 February 2011, time 12 noon.
I am currently "no mail" because this is a very busy time.
