Here in Israel babies are bathed by holding them under the tap and letting
water pour over them. Many of you were horrified by the video clip
circulating in you tube recently. That was a pretty bad version of the way
babies are washed here, but basically that is how it is done. I would like
to know how they are washed in other parts of the world. We have 11, 000
births per year in my hospital, so if you work in a hospital of similar
size, please give me some idea of how your babies are washed, if at all.
As usual I got into trouble for questioning this barbaric treatment of
babies, and would like to be able to offer positive ideas of how to change
this. You may mail me off list ( [log in to unmask] )if this is not
breastfeeding related, although bathing has been sighted as one of the
procedures which can cause problems if done before the first feed.
