Hi Kristi
There are some really good books about conducting research. Keith Punch's book is especially good. I don't know how it is in the US but here if you don't have undergraduate Honours (cum laude may be roughly equivalent), then you will have to do a research Masters degree before you can enrol in a PhD programme.
