Brenda,

<* Mom and I talked about this at the beginning but she was feeling very
overwhelmed and didn't think she could do it. She was getting quite a bit
of family pressure to breastfeed and *pressure from hubby to not add
interventions that would further increase the time it took to complete feeds
(so they could get more sleep).* With all of that combined, it wasn't an
intervention she was willing to try. I think I will suggest it to her again
since she is 4 weeks PP rather than 1.5 weeks PP.

Rather than even consider SNS let alone Lactaid at this point, have you seen
Dr. Newman's video? Very simple to use a tube inserted below fluid level in
a bottle, with tip of tube inserted in side of mouth. I have also seen the
Hazelbaker finger feeder work very well for supplementing at the breast, but
more expensive than a tube.

Perhaps there are much better sources now, but I obtained a tiny sterile
catheter at cost from my vet once for a very determined mom who used it,
along with pumping and nursing, for 18 months. Simple to start/stop, wash,
inexpensive, no extra time, etc.

Permission to post: As an aside, she had no issues such as overweight, large
breasts or managed labor/birth, but appeared to have wide space between
breasts. With the next baby she called me at 3 months to report definite and
surprising breast changes and went on to feed that baby directly with no
feeding aid for over 2.5 years. Different placenta (?) added on to all the
previous development from having kept on nursing with help for 18 mo.(I
wonder if it could have made more prolactin binding sites ??????)
