My son had blisters on his top lip from bottle feeding when he was  
very young. He had a tight labial frenelum, so I would say that they  
were caused by him not being able to flange his lips out enough, which  
is most likely also why he couldn't breastfeed, no seal.  Once he had  
his lip fixed at around 5 months, the blisters went away, yes that was  
how long it took me to find someone who would do it, and be able to  
get to the city for the appointments.  So maybe check bubs mouth  
structure and see if it could be friction on the nipple shield, which  
isn't as forgiving as mums skin.
